Copperplate Flourishes Unraveled with Nina Tran

This is a HYBRID workshop limited to 15 in-person students at the Vienna Arts Society and 25 online via Zoom. Graceful and decorative flourishes are a sure way to add interest and energy to any letter, but their formation can be enigmatic, elusive, and even intimidating.

Join LA-based Nina Tran for a 2-day unraveling and reassembling of Copperplate flourishes. We will deep-dive into the core of Copperplate flourishes and learn what they are, how they are made, how to practice them, what standard rules to follow and when to break them. We will learn tried-and-true flourishes as well as how to formulate our own, and how to study and analyze flourishes from George Bickham's The Universal Penman and other resources.

As a hybrid workshop, students will be able to participate in person and online over Zoom. A cap on the number of registrants will ensure a more intimate classroom environment.…
