Rare, delicate and beautiful, Black Books of Hours--15th century personal prayer books written on parchment dyed black--became a passion for Tiarna Zupan due to one of her mentors in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) . In this program, Tiarna will discuss the history of Black Hours, as well as some of the ways they were created. After sharing her own striking documents on black, Tiarna will demonstrate techniques she has learned through trial and error as well as from discussions with other scribes who have used the Black Hours as exemplars for their works.
